Incoming Rangers manager has slapped down Celtic with a boast claiming he was joining not only the biggest, but the BEST club in Scotland.
The Portuguese has not only stated that he believes the Ibrox club have the best history of any team in Scotland but also that they have the best current squad in the league- despite being 30 points behind their city rivals.
When asked why he believed he was joining the biggest club in Scotland he simply said: “That in easy, two numbers 144 years and 54 league titles.”
Then cleared up that he also believed that the current side, sitting 3rd in the league, are the most talented group of players in the country.
His claims come a day after he took in yesterdays 1-1 draw at Celtic Park before officially being announced in a press conference today.
The new boss, who has also managed Santos Laguna in Mexico and Al Gharrafa in Qatar as well as working at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal and Panithinaikos in Greece, has made his intentions clear from day 1 with a clear dig at front-runners Celtic.
He also revealed that he was assistant manager at the Greek giants when they played at Ibrox a few years back and enjoyed it so-much he decided to travel independently to a game against Inverness a few months later.
Upon in arriving in Glasgow he also showed his knowledge of Scottish football by revealing he wanted to follow in the footsteps of legendary managers Walter Smith, Graeme Souness and Jock Wallace.
