After completing the signing of France U21 international midfield powerhouse Olivier Ntcham, Celtic are set to get a double boost next week with news Paddy Roberts has reportedly made his mind up on what he plans to do for next season and beyond.
The 20-year-old winger is ready to spurn advances from a host of English Premier League clubs including Huddersfield and West Brom to come back to Glasgow and help the Scottish champions to 7 in a row and another tilt at the champions league.
He has told friends he believes the current Celtic squad can make a real impact and he is desperate to be part of it.
The odd of him returning to Celtic have now been slashed to 10/11 with most bookmakers.
We told you last month that Celtic had already agreed to pay a club record fee for the England u-21 star and Manchester City had indicated they wouldn’t stand in his way.
The deal looked dead in the water however as Roberts was included in a shortened first team squad of 18 to go on a Man City tour of the states.
And Celtic’s attempts to a deal for Charly Musonda, who plays in the same position as Roberts, also seemed to confirm that hope of landing Roberts again was fading.
But since then Man City have looked to bring in other wingers and have showed a willingness to a deal with Huddersfield who are ready to pay the club and player whatever they want for the exciting talent.
However word is coming out of Manchester today that Roberts has told his agent he wants a return to Celtic even if it means taking a pay cut.
Celtic can’t compete even with the likes of Huddersfield financially but the draw of coming back to Glasgow and Robert’s apparent willingness to team up again with Brendan Rodgers, Scott Sinclair and of course best mate Kieran Tierney it has left a door open for a return that will give Celtic fans a massive boost as the season nears closer.
Celtic would be open to another season long loan but are also willing to pay just under £7 million for the player if they have to.
What do you think Celtic fans? Would you happy to see the prodigal son return ?
